What type of rental properties do you manage?
We specialize in single family homes. We consider select, quality condos and duplexes in some areas.
What Property Management experience and credentials do you offer?
We’ve been told many times – usually by our clients, but every so often their neighbors that observe us – that the “Midwestern work ethic” is alive and well in the Island Butler team. We know that trust is everything, so we go above and beyond to earn it from our clients. When we say we’re going to do something, we do it and see it though to completion.
Why should I hire Island Butler?
You should hire us only if you think we are the best match for your property management needs. Turning over your rental property to the care of an unknown property manager can be an emotional and scary experience. Make sure to always talk to other property managers before hiring one and always ask questions. You want to be able to trust your property manager so that you won’t be worrying about your home and property.
How informed will I be about what happens with my home?
Non-emergency items will be communicated along with your monthly statements and, of course, we encourage you to contact Island Butler anytime you have a question or wish to discuss something. Special situations will always be brought to your attention immediately.
How long after a leak before mold growth starts?
If you have the water extracted and the moisture properly dried out by professional remediators or carpet drying specialists in the first 24 to 48 hours after a leak you may likely be ok. It takes mold a 24 to 48 hours to start to grow under ideal conditions. As you know carpets get moldy very quick, many older carpets with dirt as a food source start smelling moldy after being wet just a short time. The above refers to small amounts of mold growth, and the mold may only be at the microscopic levels after a few days. It may be a week or two before it grows to the extent that it is visible to the naked eye as spots on drywall or carpet pads. Of course, mold being a living organism with it’s own agenda is not going to follow what I say in this bolg and thus their will be exceptions.
What kinds of health problems may be linked to mold? What are symptoms and signs of mold allergy?
Molds produce irritating substances that may act as allergy-causing substances (allergens) in sensitive individuals. Furthermore, some molds produce toxic substances known as mycotoxins, but mold itself is not poisonous or toxic. The conditions under which some molds produce toxins are poorly understood, and the presence of mold, even a mold that is capable of producing toxins, does nor always imply that toxins are being produced. Mold may not cause health effects, or it may lead to symptoms in people, including adults and children, who are sensitive to molds. Allergic reactions to mold are the most common health effects of mold. Allergic reactions may happen immediately or develop after a period of time following exposure. Both growing mold and mold spores may lead to allergic reactions. Symptoms of mold allergy may include sneezing, runny nose, coughing, wheezing, tearing and redness of the eyes, and skin irritation or rash. Asthma attacks may be caused by mold or mold spores in people who have asthma and are allergic to mold. Even in some nonallergic individuals, mold can irritate the eyes, skin, and airways. For example, the “black mold” Stachybotrys, along with some other types of mold, produces toxins known as mycotoxins that can cause irritation of the skin and airways in susceptible individuals.
